After a horrible breakup with her record label JoJo has found a new home and is in the studio putting the finishing touches on her long awaited third album. The song "Hollywood"is a beautiful and melodic song that showcases JoJo at her best. Refreshing pop music at its ultimate best.
What appeared to be just another twitter hoax has sadly become reality. R&B singer Teena Marie has been found dead at the tender age of 54. The late singer is known for her hit singles"Lovergirl" and "Fire and Desire" the electrifying duet with the late Rick James. It is unknown what caused this sudden tragedy but it appears that Teena died peacefully in her sleep. What ever the cause may be this is a major heartache for R&B music lovers around the world, Teena Marie was a innovator and true diva of her time, she will be greatly missed. Our condolence is with her family through their time of grieving.
My favorite Teena Marie song was "If I Were A Bell" please enjoy and remember Teena for the beautiful voice she allowed us the pleasure of hearing. She was definitely a bell!
Keri Hilson took to the 106th & Park stage to perform a series of songs from her new album "No Boys Allowed" in stores now. The singer who has been on a strict promo tour as of lately did a fair job.; If your feeling Miss Keri this era go out and support her.
Keyshia Cole kept the promo going for her new album "Calling All Hearts" in stores everywhere tomorrow Dec 21st. The singer performed a list of songs from the new record and was even joined on stage by R&B singer Tank. Although I happen to enjoy the album I can't stress how disappointed I'm with Keyshia's live vocals as of lately. You can really hear how stressed her voice is hopefully she slows down before further damaging her vocal chords.
After leaving the scene for a while Keyshia Cole is back with a new album
and she is"Calling All Hearts".
R&B singer Keyshia Cole hasn't released an album in a little over 2 years but after finding love and adding motherhood to her list of many accomplishments, the talented singer/songwriter is back with a purpose. The albums 11 tracks showcase Keyshia doing only as she can from the production, to the depth of her vocal the album brings a perfect close to the year.
"Calling All Hearts" opens with the the lead single "I Aint Thru" ft. Nicki Minaj. Keyshia herself premiered this song on twitter and instantly fans were torn with emotion regarding the single. A lot of fans didn't believe the song lived up to her reputation as a singer or songwriter and in comparison to the remainder of the album the song does come across underwhelming. There isn't much you can do with a song like this visually or vocally. Another anthem for the ladies and some of you fellas to bounce to but neither timeless or lead single worthy.
From the passion and the lyrical content of the follow up single "Long Way Down"you knew instantly that Cole was in her element. Unlike the lead single this song holds a solid foundation from the very first vocal to the way Keyshia's voice soars through the smooth chords in the track. The Tank assisted "Tired of Doing Me" is the type of duet R&B music has been missing for quite sometime. There voices compliment each other in the most amazing way, its not overly produced and watered down. This song makes me happy.
"If I fall in Love Again" ft Faith Evansis a decent track but nothing absolutely major. The song is worthy because faith is one of the few female R&B singers who has always been solid but her and Keyshia both have husky tones to their voice which eventually almost collide on the track. I'm not sure if they thought about that.
"Better Me" is a perfect indication of how in love Keyshia is. In the song she confesses that his love makes her want to be better, and feel loved. The conviction of the vocal is deep you can hear every emotion .I feel this joint it's one for the hopeless romantics.
Where it gets tricky for me is that every song there after almost seems to perfectly flow with the theme of the album. To be honest I haven't heard an album that has been this solid since Monica released "Still Standing" earlier in the year. There is a lot to say about an artist who knows exactly what works for them, and who can showcase that artistry effortlessly.
However My concern is that the album doesn't have any noticeable songs that are single material. It's full of beautiful well placed slow jams, but none are radio friendly as some of her previous cuts. (I hear some remixes in the making).
Regardless Love has certainly done Keyshia well. Her music is mature and her lyrical content is strong but then again have we ever been able to hold that against her? Even if this album doesn't do well commercially Keyshia can rest assured that she put out a solid album that was meaningful to the woman she has become.
Other Standout Tracks
(Sometimes, Thank You ft. Yvonne Cole, Take Me Away)
Ciara slayed this performance and gave me everything I don't understand why she waited so long to deliver these performances it could have helped her sales (side eye) . Now I know I've been hard on Ciara as of lately but if she keeps delivering hot shit like this she just may win back my love..
He may not have Justin Bieber's good looks but Greyson Chance has a voice far beyond his 13 years of age...
Greyson Chance hit the music scene on youtube with a cover of lady gaga's "Paparazzi" and became an instant internet sensation and not long after Ellen Degeneres signed him to her record label. Greyson has since released his first single "Waiting Outside The Lines" the song is simply amazing its very reminiscent to The Fray which is a big deal.. Either way the kid is on his way up..
Ciara hit the Ellen stage to perform her first live showing of her new single"Gimme Dat"off her new album "Basic Instinct" in stores now. Ciara slayed that performance and gave the audience a damn good show. Hopefully this performance can revive those album sales.
R&B Songstress Melanie Fiona is back with a new single titled "Gone And Never Coming Back" the soultry singer will release her sophomore album 'The MF Life" in 2011. Melanie laid it all on the line with the strong vocals she showcased on the song and really takes us back to where R&B music use to be.
R&B Singer Brandy and B.E.THost Terrence J got a little cozy at a basketball game in NYC recently. Brandy recently reported that she has not had a sexual relationship in 6 years but looked to me as if she has not missed one beat as she leaned into Terrence who seemed pleased by her advances.
Ciara is back with 'Basic Instinct' a brand new album with an old school swag.
After her last album 'Fantasy Ride' took a new direction and was a commercial flop Ciara has returned to her roots and is going back to the (BASICS).
The album has 11 bass-heavy new joints that emote sex appeal, and attitude.
Songs on the album such as 'Gimme Dat', 'Speechless', 'Ride" and 'You Got Me'showcase Ciara at her best. The problem is these songs were all previously released as singles. This ultimately makes putting out a full length album a joke since other songs on the album likely will never see a release in the U.S.
'Girls Get Your Money' and 'Wants For Dinner' do nothing but leave me wanting more. Catchy in some ways , interesting vocal layering, but lets be real the songs sound like something the average high-school girl could have written in her 5th period class.
It's well known that Ciara isn't a vocal monster so its always interesting to see what she can and will do on a slow jam. Interestingly enough songs like 'I Run It' and 'You Can Get It' are so infectious that for a minute I got the same feeling I did when 'Promised' was released ( emphasis on for a minute people) to be Honest these may be my two standout songs beyond what has been released as single worthy material.
'Heavy Rotation' and the Usher featured 'Turn It Up' aren't as basic Ciara as I would have imagined them to be in fact both songs are very pop-influenced, and were likely left that way to insure the album has some type of cross over appeal in a market where euro-pop is at the forefront. No surprise there since Usher has completely abandoned his R&B roots.
Although Ciara was hoping to fully recapture that swag that once had people dancing across the floor I hate to say that although the album is better than her last effort it fails in comparison to her earlier work. If Ciara wants to really put out a great album that is refreshing and energizing , she needs to work with a new team of producers and writers and perhaps develop a new sound for herself.
Last night VH1 and its so called Divas saluted the troops. The performance videos have surfaced but I refuse to post them on this site. In my opinion Vh1 should be ashamed of themselves for a few of these "Diva's."
Katy Perry, Surgarland, Keri Hilson, Paramore, and Nicki Minaj
were all appointed Diva status for the night.
I have several different issues with how the show went down.
Where were all the real diva's at? I understand Sugerland & Katy Perry but Keri Hilson isNODIVA
Why was Keri Hilson even invited to the show? She was allowed one solo performance and had the least amount of stage time. Talk about a slap in the face...
Why does Nicki Minaj insist on singing 'Right Thru Me' on every televised show. Hello earth to Nicki you just released an album dip into that catalog.
Vh1 should never ever use the word Diva loosely again. EVER. Especially when previously they've showcased greats like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, etc...
Pop superstar Britney Spears took to her official twitter yesterday on her 29th B-day and gifted fans with the announcement of a new album release in March 2011. Fans had speculated for sometime that the album
was nearly done so this is simply icing on the cake.
